How to Follow God's Spirit (Part 1)

"Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh."  Paul the Apostle
"How can two walk together unless they agree?"  Amos the Prophet
"Those who live in agreement with the Spirit set their minds on what the Spirit desires."  Paul the Apostle
"Follow me."  The Lord Jesus Christ
"Enoch walked with God." Moses, the servant of God

Agreement is the fundamental component of walking with someone--including God.
When two people agree to take a walk together, they arrive at the same place and time.  They go in the same direction, to the same destination, and for the same reason.  They agree to be together the entire time.   Normally, when two “take a walk together,” they like being together.  They talk intimately, freely, and joyfully.  They simply enjoy each other’s company.  In other words, the destination doesn’t matter.  They love each other and being together.
Walking in the Spirit, or in agreement with the Spirit, involves all of these things.   Of course, because He's God, He determines the destination and reason. But the same things apply.  How can The Spirit and a man or woman walk together unless they agree to do so?
To be commanded to walk in the Spirit assumes the Spirit agrees to walk with us.  And he wants us to agree to walk with Him, wherever He goes, no matter where He is going.  We follow the Spirit like the disciples followed Jesus.
Jesus called his disciples to first of all “be with Him.”
His first command to his followers was simply and obviously “Follow me.”
To follow someone is to walk behind him.  You allow him to lead, decide, and determine the destination.  How can there be a leader and a follower unless someone agrees to lead, and someone else agrees to follow?  Jesus agreed to lead, and his disciples agreed to follow.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. By His Spirit he leads today the same way he did in the past.
The Spirit of Jesus still agrees to lead us.
But do we agree to walk with him?  (Click here for part 2...)
