The Evil that Happened in Aurora, Colorado (Part 2)

What I may fear most is regret...the nagging questions of past decisions..

why did it happen?
where did i go wrong?
what could i have done differently?
if ONLY i would have done this...
if ONLY i didn't do that
if i had just stayed home that day...this wouldn't have happened....

the memory of a cross road...two options...a specific road taken...a moment where it could have gone either way....

this is my fear....a decision that has irreversible irreparable consequences...a decision i could have made differently....this is where i blame me

but what if i DIDN'T make some wrong decision, not that i can see or remember...what about the decision of ANOTHER...A MASS MURDERER???

where was GOD in that?  we know where the devil was...but where was GOD???!!!

"why did it happen?"  we ask.  we want to MAKE SENSE of the evil.

but it is written,
"The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.'"
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

  • In the movie "Batman Begins," the fictitious character Henri Ducard said, "The criminal is not complicated."
  • Martial Analyst Marc Mac Young defines a criminal as an EXTREMELY selfish person who is willing to use violence to get what he or she wants.
  • C.S. Lewis describes evil incarnate in a most remarkable way:
"Indeed no imagined horror could have surpassed the sense which grew within him as the slow hours passed, that this creature was, by all human standards, inside out – its heart on the surface and its shallowness at the heart. On the surface, great designs and an antagonism to Heaven which involved the fate of worlds: but deep within, when every veil had been pierced, was there, after all, nothing but a black puerility, an aimless empty spitefulness content to sate itself with the tiniest cruelties, as love does not disdain the smallest kindness?"
[From "Perelandra", ch.9]

what i see and understand of evil, from these words and thoughts, and from my own experiences of evil, is this:  BY DEFINITION, EVIL WILL NEVER "MAKE SENSE."  In fact, it is the very definition of senselessness and meaninglessness!!  This doesn't mean there is no "reason" or cause and effect relationships or whatever...it just means that even when we find out the "reasons," they will not satisfy because they cannot satisfy.  In other words, there is no line of reasoning behind the Aurora murders that will cause a sane person to say, "Oh, NOW I understand.  That makes PERFECT SENSE..."  When will it make perfect sense to lose a loved one to a random act of cruelty?!  Whether we blame a psychological state, an upbringing, or a demon, we will NEVER accept what happened in Aurora as something that makes sense!

I will even go so far as to say that we shouldn't accept it as something that was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!  It makes me very angry when someone tries to make situations like this one a "life lesson," like my children or anyone else's children should die or suffer so I can learn a lesson from it!

When George Zimmerman made comments concerning Trayvon Martin's killing being a "part of God's plan," Martin's mother rightly resisted these words.  I knew the moment those words came from Zimmerman's mouth (because I watched the interview where he invokes "God's plan) that he was completely wrong!

What I'm fighting against is the American tendency, even in the church, to stifle emotion, or at least negative emotion, connected to sadness or grief.  I remember a woman asking me if she was being weak for feeling sad about her brother's death.  I was appalled!  I told her "Of course not! It is not weakness to mourn in grief or anger for your brother!"

Evil is insanity, senseless meaningless purposeless uselessness!!!  It is  DEVIATION from God's plan!
IT IS NEVER God's plan!!!

I'm not focusing on all the theological/philosophical issues of sovereignty and freewill, because I wouldn't be focused on these if, God forbid, I lost one of my children.  (I hated to even write that part of the sentence.)

Whether dealing with the devil or people, there is no "reason" for evil, no "reason" to evil.  It is not supposed to happen!  Our world is not supposed to be like this!!!

(My friend and brother, James-Michael Smith, inspired me to write these words after reading his article on the evil that took place in Aurora. His words impacted me powerfully.  Read them and be impacted as well.)

The Evil that Happened in Aurora, Colorado (Part 1)

This is more than philosophical blog discussion for those who lost loved ones, brothers and sisters, children and friends.  It is written, "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn."  So I mourn with the many who feel the indescribably deep hole in the their souls.

Having children, I dare not imagine such pain.  I literally hate to think of it or consider it.  But many no longer have this luxury.  There was a time when my children didn't exist.  Now their existence is so intertwined with mine that my family is an irreducible complexity.  Like a mouse trap that needs every part to be what it is, so it is when children are born.  My family is not my family without each and every member.

Hatred
Fear
Resentment
Deep and indescribable grief
Suffering
Loathing

These are glimpses of feelings, blended or pure in form, that I can only imagine I would feel if I lost one of my children...lost to a senseless and "unnecessary" evil, as if there is ever necessary evil that makes sense.

This is where I'm going in my writing.

But before I go there, I must go where my heart is.  My heart is broken for those who lost sons, daughters, sisters and brothers, friends and children.  I mourn with you, for what it is worth.  I pray that God comforts you in the ways that only He can.  And I pray that God places people in your life who say no more and no less than what you need to hear at the very moment of your deepest need; for those who will be there when you want a presence, and who will leave when you need their absence; that this delicate balance will be given by God and those sensitive to His Spirit...that you won't experience the patronization and simplification of the evil and loss you have undergone...the sometimes insensitive attempt to "bring something positive" out of your loss, or to "find some life lesson to learn;" may you not experience anything other than what you need...may those who truly understand your feelings be brought into your life...those who understand the blend of emotions beyond words, or that overflow in words.

God my Father, please hear my prayer.  Amen.

How to change YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!!

Who doesn't want this?  Whose life is so perfect that they seek nothing else?

Rich or poor.
Young or old.
Satisfied or unsatisfied.
Happy or unhappy.

ALL of us want SOMETHING that we don't have NOW.
ALL of us want to change our lives, somehow, some way.
Some of us may want this, or NEED this, more than others.
But until we reach heaven, I dare say that we all want TO CHANGE OUR LIVES.

What determines the course of each of our lives?
What should we guard above all else?

Both questions have the same answer--OUR HEARTS!!!

It was written by King Solomon:

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."
Proverbs 4:23 NLT

Solomon, the son of David, the third king of Israel, received his wisdom, the wisdom behind these words, directly from God.  This is how it happened:

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.

“Now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. I Kings 3:5-12 NIV, emphasis mine

What a dream!  God told Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted, and Solomon, in humility, asked for wisdom.  God not only gave him wisdom, but gave him more wisdom than anyone before him or after him!  His wisdom was second only to the wisdom of the Lord Jesus Himself, who said that He was greater than Solomon in wisdom.  (See Luke 11:31)

Now, having said this, we get back to our two questions, and in answering them we find the answer to changing our entire life:

What determines the course of our lives?
What should we guard above all else?

The answer, according to Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived, having received his wisdom directly from God, is OUR HEART!

OUR HEARTS DETERMINE THE COURSE OF OUR LIVES!
THEREFORE, WE SHOULD GUARD OUR HEARTS ABOVE ALL ELSE!

Because of the incredible significance of Solomon's words, we should look at each word, one by one, phrase by phrase, using elementary grammatical principles:

GUARD---This is an active verb.  It is not something done to you or for you, but something that YOU DO!  The idea is of a prison guard that DETERMINES who or what enters or exits a jail.

YOUR---This is a possessive pronoun.  YOU are responsible for that which you possess.  Not me.  Not GOD.  Not anyone else.

HEART---In the scriptures, the heart encompasses your thoughts and intentions, meaning your focus and motivation behind every word and every action.

FOR IT---The word "for" communicates cause or reason.  The word "it," a pronoun, refers back to YOUR HEART!

DETERMINES---The idea communicates a source, or the source.  Where you are going from this point on, from this sentence on, is determined by your heart.

THE---Not a, but THE, specific and exclusive...

COURSE---DIRECTION AND DESTINATION, WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHERE YOU WILL ARRIVE

OF YOUR LIFE!

Now, since your heart bears such importance and significance, how can you indeed accurately guard it?  How can you really KNOW your heart?

The prophet Jeremiah said:
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9

God Himself, and the Lord Jesus Christ, gave us the answer and the remedy for our deceitful hearts:

"Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?"  Ezekiel 18:31 NIV, emphasis mine

Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. Matthew 12:33-35

As I said earlier, so I show now in these verses.  God told Israel to get a new heart, and Christ, again speaking to Israel (to the disciples and false teachers of Israel), compares the heart to a tree and words to fruit from a tree.  They could MAKE THE TREE GOOD OR BAD!  So it is with you and me.  We determine whether our hearts are deceitful or true by turning our hearts to God and away from ourselves.  When we do this, we have these promises:

"I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh."

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."
Ezekiel 11:19 and 32:26

So, the means to a new heart, or a new mindset and motivation, is two fold:
1.  We turn our hearts to God and away from ourselves.  This very act is literally a "change of heart."
2. When we turn to God and away from ourselves, giving our hearts to God, then God receives our heart as His very own, making it, indeed, a new heart;  a heart that is no longer deceitful or wicked.

Have a change your heart!
Change your mind, mindset, and focus!
Change your motivation and your purpose!!
CHANGE
YOUR ENTIRE
LIFE!
GUARD THIS CHANGE ABOVE ALL ELSE!!!
ALLOW NOTHING TO ENTER YOUR MIND OR LEAVE YOUR MOUTH THAT IS FROM YOUR OLD WAY OF THINKING AND LIVING!

Do you realize what this means?!?
The rest of your life, from this moment forward, from this sentence forward, IS UP TO YOU!

You cannot blame God, the Devil, your parents, or anyone else, for what happens to you from this moment forward!  True, there are a myriad of things beyond your control, BUT YOUR HEART IS NOT ONE OF THEM!  And God did not say that a myriad of things determine the course of your life.  ONE THING DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE!  ONE THING SHOULD BE GUARDED ABOVE ALL ELSE!!!

GUARD
YOUR
HEART!!

Think of your life, as it is, right now!  The word of God says that your heart determined the course of your life!  That means that YOU determined where you are, right now, as of this moment!

"WAIT A MINUTE!  I had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, to do with what happened to me!  I DID NOT determine my birth, birthplace, parents, and the circumstances of my childhood!  Are you BLAMING ME for all that has happened to me?!"

No!  Neither does God!  Again, the verse does not say, "Guard YOUR PAST above all else."  Listen very carefully to what I'm about to say.

According to Proverbs 4:23, written by the wisest man who ever lived, the one who received his wisdom DIRECTLY from GOD, YOUR PAST DOES NOT DETERMINE THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE!!!  HALLELUJAH!!

Christ came to save you, not just from the sins you committed, but the sins committed against you!  The first and foremost "change of heart" is accepting Christ as the one who saved your life, and as the one WHO SAVES YOUR LIFE!!

This is the first and fundamental change of heart.
What you are not responsible for, ask Jesus to save you from.
BUT WHAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR, NAMELY, YOUR HEART, IS WHAT DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE FROM NOW ON!!!

So, where do you begin?  AT THE BEGINNING.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."  John 1:1-3

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him."  Colossians 1:15-16

Take note of the words "all things."  This includes YOU!  YOU were created by God, through Christ, AND FOR CHRIST!!

This is the fundamental change of heart.  You stop existing as though you were created by yourself AND FOR YOURSELF!!  This applies to those who already believe in the Lord Jesus, as well as those who have never trusted Him.  EVERYONE should live for Him, having been created by Him.

What do you live for RIGHT NOW, at this very moment?  Regardless of your past, what do YOU personally live for?  What have YOU chosen as your reason for creation?  If it is anything other than God's pleasure and honor, CHANGE YOUR HEART!  Change your focus and purpose!  Now!  YOUR HEART determines the course of your life!

How do you know what's in your heart?  There are two ways to know your heart:

1.  God's word exposes your truest heart, your true motivation and intentions, as it is written:   For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart Hebrews 4:12 ESV  By the written and spoken word of God, which is piercing truth, you may know and judge your truest state.  So if you want to know your heart, hear and read the word of God.

2. Not only does God's word expose your heart, BUT YOUR VERY OWN WORDS EXPOSE YOUR HEART!  "For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." (Matthew 12:34b)  Your words, what you say in your UNGUARDED moments, reveal what is in you, as we all know.  When you are just talking up a storm, letting it all flow, YOU AND I BOTH KNOW!!!

So, listen to God AND TO YOURSELF!  If what you habitually say does not match what God says, THEN CHANGE YOUR HEART, AND GUARD YOUR HEART!!  Allow nothing in your mind or out of your mouth that does not match what God says about you--that you were created by God, through His Son, and FOR HIS SON!!!

From now on, determine the course of your life by guarding your thoughts and intentions.

Give your heart to God.
Focus on God alone.
Live for God alone.

The rest of your life is up to you!!

What DID Jesus DO? (Part 2)

Alright.
So we're not in Galilee.
How do we apply the last post?

I'm an officer.  As a God appointed governing authority (see Romans 13) I demonstrate the authority of Christ Jesus in heaven and on earth, a spiritual/supernatural authority as well as physical/natural authority. Whenever I enforce the laws of the land that agree with the laws of God, I manifest the fear of the Lord on earth, and bring about order on earth as there is in heaven.  I "bind" demons to silence, inactivity, and absence, destroying the works of the devil--the works of lawlessness, chaos, and rebellion.  I experience the power of the presence of God by the Spirit's power.

A teacher would experience the authority of THE TEACHER.  It was said that Jesus taught with authority, an authority that astonished and amazed those who heard; an authority that even struck fear in those who challenged them, silencing them in shame.  So it should be with the believer who is a teacher, whatever he teaches, whatever instructions she gives.

A homeschooling mother proclaims the good news to her children, teaching them the ways of the kingdom, manifest in her children's relationships to each other, their father, and their mother.  If any of them are sick, she lays hands on them and heals them, just as Jesus did, and would do, in the same situation.  And if, God forbid, her kids are attacked by demons, she casts them out with calm authority, and they leave at her word.

A mail carrier becomes God's messenger, and when he speaks with neighbors that meet him in his deliveries, he heralds the good news of God's kingdom, a heavenly mail carrier, if you will.  If any need prayer, healing, or deliverance, and sense The Healer with her, the mail carrier prays as she is asked or sought out, and those who receive their mail also receive Christ the healer in the mail carrier.

Wherever the believer goes, the Spirit of God goes with him.  Wherever the believer goes, the power of God goes with her.  The presence of God, which is the kingdom of God, has indeed come to earth, and is experienced in Spirit filled, Spirit lead followers of Christ!

A believer who sees an accident on the road can stop and heal the ones in the accident.  When the paramedics come, they will find no one in need of medical attention.

A security guard can silently cast out a demon when encountering a violent person, and then skillfully subdue the criminal physically.

The power of God is univeral and all applicable.

In whatever situation you find yourself in, you possess power and the Spirit if you believe in Christ the Lord.

He is the same yesterday today and forever.  He is in you if you believe. Therefore, do what He would do in the same situation.  If someone is sick, in His name, heal them.  If someone suffers mental torments, in His name, cast out the demons, the source of the mental oppression.  If someone is down, in the name of Jesus, preach the good news.  If someone is confused, in Christ's name, teach the principles of the kingdom.

Do what Jesus did.
Do what He would do.

What DID Jesus DO?

You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached—how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.  Acts 10:37-38
The question used to be asked: "What would Jesus DO?"
I believe the answer lies in what Jesus actually DID.
Wherever He went, He did good.  What good?  Miraculous good.
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.
Matthew 4:23-24  NIV
1. Preaching
2. Teaching
3. Healing
4. Liberating
These are the good things Jesus did wherever He went.
He proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom of God:  that God's kingdom had indeed returned--by His very presence and the presence of the Spirit of God.  God was (and is) with those who believe, and will be with all who believe.  He also taught the ways of the kingdom of God, the means by which God's kingdom and will are to be done on earth as in heaven.

What better news is there than this--if it was true...
BUT IT REALLY WAS TRUE!  How do we know?
In heaven there is no sickness.  Therefore, Jesus cured all who came to Him or were brought to Him.
Christ cast Satan and the demons out of heaven.  Thus when they were in men and women, Jesus cast them out.
Now we should know the answer to the question, "What would Jesus do?"  And indeed, for those who believe, we should do likewise.
Christians should preach and teach the Kingdom of God, and demonstrate the truth of God's kingdom by healing the sick and casting out demons--by supernatural power.  With power the proclamation of God's kingdom is made.  The Spirit of Christ is on earth.  Where the Spirit is, the kingdom of God is.
We know what Jesus did, therefore we know what Jesus would do in every situation, as it is written,
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
What He did is what He still does, and what He will do for all who will believe in Him.

GOD IN ME

Think of this:  God made us in His image and likeness

Think of the words of Jesus:  "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father."

Think of the implications of the purpose of our creation:  To be Christ imitations--Predestined Christian.

Think of what this means right now:
If you believe in Christ, you possess the nature of Christ,
and the Holy Spirit of Christ;
so when someone sees you,
they have seen the Lord,
assuming you live in agreement with the Lord.

If you accept the mission of Christ as your mission, then men and women encounter God when they indeed encounter you.

This is the mission of Christ, in the words of Christ:

"For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world--to bear witness to the truth. All who are of the truth hear my voice."

Believe in Christ and commit yourself to the cause of Christ; in doing so you will be one with Christ.

Thus, when people encounter you, they will encounter Christ in you.

BEING BORN AGAIN (PART 2)

All possess conscience.
All will die.
All face their Creator.
All choose their destiny, for all eternity.
All choose where they want to be, for all eternity.
All choose heaven.
Or.
All choose hell.
All in heaven wanted heaven.
All in hell wanted hell.

----------------------------
Birth happens without our choice.
Rebirth cannot happen without our choice.
----------------------------------------
Slavery exists.
Slaves exists.
All are slaves of Satan from birth.
All are slaves of God from rebirth.
All choose slave masters, and none can possess two masters, unless one loves one master and utterly hates the other.

Those reborn submit to One:  The Spirit of Life.
They refuse to respond to selfish desires, to the ways of this world, to external laws, and especially Satan and demons.  They possess laws, but internal, written on their minds and their hearts by the Spirit who is in them by faith in Christ Jesus.

They choose a spiritual mindset, focused on spiritual things; focused on the desires of the Spirit.

This is therefore how you know them, and how you know yourself as one of them:  by what they have chosen, and by what you have chosen.

Being Born Again

God formed Adam’s body.
He breathed into Adam’s nostrils the breath of life—his spirit.

Spirit+body=living soul.
Spirit=God consciousness:  Conscience-intuition-communion-divine conversation between God and man
Soul=Self-consciousness:  Mind-self comprehension; emotion-self experience; volition-self expression
Body=World consciousness:  The physical-visible, tangible, audible

God’s Breath or Spirit is Adam’s breath or spirit.  There is a connection between Creator and creation.

Adam sinned, bringing a separation between Creator and creation.

His spirit and body died, meaning they became unresponsive to God.
His spirit followed his body instead of his body following his spirit.

All of his children experienced the same.

Enter Christ, the last Adam, the second man.

Christ became a man, son of Mary, son of David, son of Judah, son of Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham, son of Shem, son of Noah, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.

Christ became the last “Adam,” the last of son of Adam, the last son of God.  He was born of God and woman.  His connection to God was the Spirit, and His own Divine Identity.  His connection to Adam was Eve.  God decided Christ was the last Adam, the last descendent of Adam.  All humans came from God through Adam, thus from Christ through Adam.  So Christ is the true father of the human race, the true source.

Being the God Man, He is in time and beyond time.  So in time He is a son of Adam, and beyond time He is a Son of God.  He takes all before Him and all after Him into Himself, because all before Him and all after Him come from him.  So He has the right to be the last Adam and the second man, being the beginning and the end of all creation.  At the resurrection He became the firstborn of the new creation.  All who accept Him join him, being one with Him.  Their old spirit died with Him on the cross, since spiritual reality is not bound by time or space.  His death is eternal.  Our spirits journey back in time and die with him, rise with Him, and ascend with Him.

The old me was a slave of idolatry and adultery.  The new me is a slave of the spirit, completely free.  Only the Spirit has authority over me.  This takes faith.  I believe God can do more than I imagine.  Amen

A BIBLICAL DEFENSE OF SELF-DEFENSE (PART 2)

"how do i defend myself biblically?"

awareness
avoidance
resistance

as it is written,

"Be self-controlled, be watchful, for your adversary the devil roams about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith..."

now some may object to me using this scripture in relation to self-defense.  after all, peter spoke about the persecutions of the early christians, which came from satan...and they were to ENDURE those persecutions, even the physical torments and tortures and deaths.

true.

as stated in part 1, if it is God's will for one to suffer for doing good or for the cause of Christ, and one KNOWS this, then the suffering should be embraced and endured for the glory of God.

but i'm talking about someone breaking into your home, for example, or someone attempting to mug or rape you.  is it God's will for a thief to succeed, when it is written, "You shall not steal?"  is it God's will for the rapist to succeed, when it is written, "You shall not murder," and "The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit...?"

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.  Jesus called the devil a murderer.  Thus He came to destroy the work of murder.  Murder is a violent act.  Therefore, one should be aware of violently dangerous people and places, avoid dangerous people and places, and resist dangerous people and places, as it is written, "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you."

Yet again, some only think of these verses and principles spiritually...or so it seems.  None of us hesitate to call the police, or to expect the police to use violence to stop violence, if the violent criminal will not surrender peacefully.

But when it comes to personal self-defense, or committing personal violence, we shudder.  We hesitate.  We fear.  Why?  Where does this fear come from?

THE DEVIL

Yes, we are to be peaceful and peacemakers, as it is written, "If at all possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."  But this verse ASSUMES, that it MAY NOT be possible and MAY NOT depend on you.

What do you do in those moments?

We see the necessity defense via violence with the Hitlers and Osama Bin Ladens of the world.  Yet what we do with them on a global scale is no different from what we should do with tyrants on a personal scale--RESIST!   If we had to stop Hitler's world domination, surely we must stop the bully's individual domination.  We consider it OUR DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY to resist national tyranny, but somehow make individual tyranny an exemption.

God forbid.

Resist evil, all evil, every evil.  As it is indeed written, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Yet we forget that justice is good and injustice is evil.  We should overcome injustice with justice, unmercifulness with mercy.  And we should NEVER make the mistake of pitting mercy and justice against each other.  Think of this scripture, "If we confess our sins, God is faithful AND JUST to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of our unrighteousness."

God is JUST in granting FORGIVENESS, meaning it would be UNJUST for God to refuse forgiveness to the one who confesses sin BECAUSE OF JESUS' DEATH.

God's justice is merciful, and His mercy is just.

Indeed, we should not seek to harm or hurt anyone, IF IT IS POSSIBLE, AND AS FAR AS IT DEPENDS ON US.  But if someone seeks to cause us physical harm or death, and it is not due to a governing authority persecuting us as Christians, where is it a scriptural principle to let violence happen us, or any evil for that matter?  Christ Himself refused to let violence happen to Him.  We as His followers should not unnecessarily allow harm or death to ourselves either.  Until it was time for Jesus to die for our sins, He resisted violence and death.  Until our time comes, we should resist violence as well.

Resist all evil, physical and spiritual.
Avoid.
Evade.
Resist.

As it is written, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
It is also written, "It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel."
Yet again it is written, "Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the children of God."

With the innocence of doves and the wisdom of serpents, we should be aware of dangerous people, never gullible, never vulnerable.  We should avoid them if possible.  If it is not possible, we should deescalate situations, calming those who are angry, never provoking, challenging, or or insulting anyone, and never oblivious to the danger we face.  If we can't avoid or deescalate, we should call the police, AND UNTIL THE POLICE COME, we should do whatever it takes to prevent bodily harm or death to ourselves.

Does one need to take self-defense classes, martial arts, or gun courses.  This depends on each Christian and the Spirit's leading. But make no mistake, we SHOULD respect our bodies as the very temples of the living God.  We lock the doors of our houses and cars.  These are forms of self-defense.  We turn on porch lights and alarms.  We call the police when danger is suspected.  Again, all of these are forms of self-defense.

We should lock the doors of our wills and minds to the violent, and turn on the alarms and porch lights of awareness and avoidance.  If someone seeks to break the locks on the doors of our souls, and break into the temple of God, our very body, we should stop them.

Don't get hit.
Stop the continuing attack.

This may mean running and yelling, meaning you run AWAY from danger and TO SAFETY.
It may mean hitting the attacker in his or her eyes until they can't see long enough FOR YOU TO RUN OR ESCAPE.

Self-defense should be as simple as possible, ending in three moves or less, focused on escape!
Use gravity against a physical enemy, taking his balance or her support (meaning the legs they stand on.)  All of us, big or small, short or tall, ARE SUBJECT TO GRAVITY.

Never let anyone get behind you, and if possible, get behind them for your attack and escape.

Take these few principles and find natural ways to practice and apply them.  I also advise you to go this self-defense.  (Warning:  Sometimes the author uses profanity.  He also seems to be atheistic in his spirituality, but the principles he gives are in agreement with scripture and plain reason.  For example, gravity as a principle of self-defense comes from God, whether he acknowledges God or not.  The principles I mention come from all that I've learned from this site, and compared to scripture, plain reason, and experience.  Thought I don't agree with all that is on the site spiritually, I agree wholeheartedly with the universal self-defense principles Mr. MacYoung teaches.)

May God the All Powerful protect you and enable you to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Peace be with the one who reads.

A BIBLICAL DEFENSE OF SELF-DEFENSE

"Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.  He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me."
Psalms 144:1-2 NIV

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:45-47 NIV

These are the words of David, the son of Jesse, the 2nd king of Israel.  He wrote about physical battle with spiritual assumptions and implications, battle in the natural and the supernatural.  He was a desendent of Judah, son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham.  Abraham once rescued his family who had been kidnapped.  He took "trained men" who worked for him and went against kings victoriously.  A priest met him and blessed him as one blessed by God with victory and governing authority.

Self defense is about governing authority.

Abraham was the head of his house, of his clan, of his tribe, if you will.  There weren't badges or police cars or sirens for this shepherd.  There were kings and armies.  There were heads of families.  These were the governing authorities, which come from God and are appointed by God, as it is written in the 13th chapter of Romans,

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer."

Peter gives a similar command in his first letter of scripture, and adds that governing authorities reward good and punish evil.

But again, let's examine the concept of governing authority, and apply this concept to self-defense, to the individual mandate to defend the body from criminality or an enemy.

Paul already established that God is the source of governing authority, and the Lord Jesus Himself said that God gave Him all authority in heaven and on earth.  What are the boundaries of human authority?  And how do these relate to self-defense?

When we think of "governing authority," or "law enforcement" as we would call it today, we take for granted their official establishment.  We forget the old days, the "wild wild west," if you will, where there were outlaws a plenty, and the "sheriff" was a lone man with a star on his shirt, with maybe a few deputies, and a small jail cell.  Who was this sheriff, really, and who were his deputies?  (I'm using the "wild west" as an illustration. For those unfamiliar with westerns or this period in American history, stay with me, I'll make this plain.)

The police are just people, men and women trained and evaluated as law abiding and sane citizens.  Their uniforms, badges, and guns have no power beyond our comprehension of their representation and divine origin.  Before these uniforms and badges, there was still governing authority, or law enforcement, if you will.  Families knew that those who sought to oppress or overtake them had to be resisted.  INDIVIDUALS who traveled knew the same, which is why most avoided traveling alone.

In other words, it is assumed that our physical lives come from God, and that He alone possesses the right to take them.  Yet He "shares" this right with humanity, in the name of governing authority, when there is a violent violation against the human life and human body, as it is written,

“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed;for in the image of God
has God made man." Genesis 9:6

Man, made in God's image, becomes God's representative:  a governing authority, sometimes individually, sometimes collectively.  In other words, God made me in His image and likeness, so to attack my body is an assault on the image of God.

Who was God speaking to after the flood?  Eight "souls."  Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives.  Now.  Who would be shedding the blood of murderers?  One of these eight.  No badges, no guns, no police cars.

I think we get caught up in our day and age, and forget how they did it "back in the day."  We forget the "old school."

In other words, justice came from mere men and women, authorized by God Himself.  Self-defense is encompassed in this.

"Turning the other cheek," and "loving our enemies" never negates the governing authority of self-defense.  When Jesus commanded to turn the other cheek, He spoke of a well understood personal insult of his day (and today as well.)  The point is not to seek revenge or retaliation, but reconciliation.  Now notice SOMETHING ELSE He taught and demonstrated.  He told His disciples to confront those who sin against them, first alone, then with two witnesses, then before the church.  If the sinner refused to repent, then there was to be separation, because the sinner refused to repent and refused reconciliation.

This would definitely include being struck on the cheek.  In fact, when Jesus Himself was struck in His mock trial, He said, "If I've done wrong, tell me what I've done, otherwise, why did you strike me."  He didn't just "take it."

Yet this is not dealing with someone trying to cause you grave bodily harm or death.  It is merely a personal insult.  One that is not to be allowed to continue.

We see Abraham defending and taking back his family when they were kidnapped.  We see David and his mighty men doing the same when their wives and families were taken.  These incidents are examples of self-defense....God backed self-defense at that.

Paul instructs the Ephesians to take up the "whole armor of God."  If we can defend ourselve spiritually, why not physically?  If spiritual armor is given by God Himself, why not physical?  Does He care less about our bodies than our spirits?  God forbid.  This is heresy, the hatred of the body and elevation of the spirit over it.  The resurrection shuts down this lie once and for all.  God is for the body, and the body is for the Lord, according to Paul.  It is indeed the very temple of the Holy Spirit.  Those who attempt to destroy it will themselves be destroyed, according to Paul.

Of course, as Jesus said, "those who live by the sword will die by the sword."  We are not to be lovers of violence, because God Himself hates violence, and blessed are the peace makers, those called children of God.  Yet Jesus also said, "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."  So though we do not live by bread alone, WE STILL NEED BREAD.  We don 't live by or for bread alone, but we legitimately need it, and are told by Jesus to pray for it daily.

In the same way, though we are not to live by the sword or by bread, WE NEED BOTH, AND GOD GIVES BOTH.  In Romans 13, the sword of the governing authority (our modern day gun, if you will) is given by God, and the authorities are known as God's avengers.

We usually don't have as much of  a problem with police officers having guns.  But what about citizens possessing weapons?  Sure, God gives the sword to governing authorities, but does He give the sword to citizens?  Because God says submit to the governing authorites, if the governing authorites allow citizens weapons, then God allows weapons to citizens.  In Rome, citizens possessed swords.  The apostles themselves had two swords, and Jesus said "it was enough."  Now He didn't want Peter to defend Him with a sword, which leads us to an exception in self-defense.

It most be noted and thoroughly understood that Jesus EVADED death from the beginning of His ministry until His crucifixion.  In fact, his first recorded sermon in Luke resulted in an attempt on His life.  Note again, His evasion of death IS SELF-DEFENSE!!  In fact, it is self-defense in its purest form.  Many think of martial arts, weapons, and fighting when they think of self-defense.  But in truth, awareness and avoidance of dangerous places and dangerous people is the essence of self-defense.  Danger avoided is the truest skill.  Avoiding a confrontation is wisdom and strength, as it is written, "It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.  Proverbs 20:3"

Many "cool" martial arts proverbs communicate the same things Solomon said.

However, when it came time for Jesus to die for our sins, He refused to resist the Father's will.  We see the same with Daniel, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego, as well as the apostles when the governing authorities commanded them to cease preaching the gospel, and they disobeyed.  They accepted the consequences of their civil disobedience, and did not resist death.  In fact, based upon the context of Jesus' words, it may very well be that "turning the other cheek" primarily applied to governing authorities punishing civil disobedience.  Nevertheless, even if turning the other cheek focused on personal offenses, the point remains: if a believer is commanded by governing authorities to stop preaching the gospel or making disciples, believers are to respectfully disobey, and accept the consequences without physical resistance.

YET UNDERSTAND THIS:
UNLESS ONE KNOWS IT IS GOD'S WILL FOR ONE TO SUFFER OR DIE, ONE SHOULD RESIST PHYSICAL AS WELL AS SPIRITUAL SUFFERING!

"For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God."

"Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.”

"It is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil."  These are the words of the Apostle Peter, as he neared his own death for the cause of Christ.

If, and only if, it is God's will, suffer for doing good, for the name and fame of Christ.

Otherwise, EVADE DEATH!
Otherwise, resist death as an enemy!!
Otherwise, assume your GOVERNING AUTHORITY OVER YOUR BODY!!!
LIBERTY!!!
NOW THE LORD IS THE SPIRIT!!  (NOT THE CRIMINAL.)
WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY.
IF YOU BELIEVE IN CHRIST, THE SPIRIT IS IN YOUR BODY.
THEREFORE, IN YOUR BODY DWELLS THE LORD OF LIBERTY!!
LIBERTY FOR YOUR BODY!!
LIBERTY FOR GOD'S GLORY!!

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR MIND IS POSSESSED BY SATAN (PART 2)

"Be self-controlled, be watchful.  Your adversary the devil roams about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that your brothers and sisters all over the world experience the same sufferings as you do."
My paraphrase of the words of the Apostle Peter from his letter in the scriptures.

"I'm not convinced.  Come on!  The devil doesn't control my mind!  I'm not projectile vomiting and my head is not spinning around or anything like that.  No deep monstrous voice is coming out of my mouth and I'm not having dreams and visions of serial killings or sexual perversions."

Right.  Did Eve experience any of the things above when Satan deceived her?  Not at all.  He asked her a question.  His deception began with a question, a question with an anti God assumption.

A question.
An assumption

Now, what would it take to convince you that Satan possesses minds?  Maybe even your mind?

What is possession, whether the EXTREMES seen in demon movies, or the subtleties of real satanic assault?

A TOTAL LOSS OF SELF-CONTROL!

"Well alcoholics and drug addicts lose control all of the time!  In fact, they use drugs, get drunk, or get high FOR THE PURPOSE OF LOSING CONTROL!!!"

Exactly!  Often on "demon movies," this is the exact preamble to demon possession.  In fact, way back in the day, those who got drunk or used drugs did so for the purpose of spirit encounters.  They KNEW that they opened themselves up to spirits through "mind altering substances."

Mind altering

"OK.  So you're trying to tell me that EVERYONE who gets drunk or high IS DEMON POSSESSED!?"

NO.  I'm telling you that they FULFILL THE CONDITIONS OF DEMON POSSESSION:
BLANKNESS OF MIND AND PASSIVITY OF WILL.

Even necromancers and mediums know this and do this.  They all know that the condition of their spiritual encounter is to blank their minds and just let the spirit in and do whatever it wants.

"What about hypnotism and yoga and all other spiritual experiences where mediation is used to blank the mind and make the will passive?"

EXACTLY!

God does not require anyone to blank his or her mind or become passive in will.

It is written, "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you."

Submit to God.
Resist the devil.

Contrary to popular belief, and to the deception of Satan, submission is not passive.  It is a military term, in which soldiers VOLUNTARILY join an army and follow an officer.  They don't become mindless or will-less.  They use their minds and wills to understand and carry out righteous orders.  All who are in the military understand this.  They understand that they are not under obligation to obey IMMORAL OR UNETHICAL ORDERS.

I repeat without shame:  EVERY state  and person that requires passivity of mind and will are open to the conditions of Satan possession.

This feels like thoughts, emotions, and volitions that are not of your origin, no matter how subtle, OR EVEN PLEASING, they may be!!!

IF YOU ARE NOT IN  CONTROL OF YOUR MIND, THE DEVIL IS!!!

USE OR LOSE YOUR MIND!!!

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR MIND IS POSSESSED BY SATAN

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."  Proverbs 4:23 NLT

God gave you a mind.  You think, reason, and imagine with it.  You.  Not God.

If you experience constant thoughts, reasons, or imaginations of which you are not the origin,
that go AGAINST your volition,
you know these thoughts are not from God, and they are not from you.
Then from who do they come?
Satan, the master of mind oppression.
The mind bender deceiver.
The subtle assumption giver.

Some suppose psychological problems the source of mind assaults.  They assume that "the mind" simple breaks or has a mind of its own even, and that "demons" are not really the reason, unless by "demons" you mean your own unresolved issues.  Thus when a psychologist speaks of a person "battling his or her demons," she simply means unresolved issues, not personal spirits of evil.  Now who has a distinct advantage in all of this?  Either we "look for demons under every rock," or we see psychology as the only source of liberty.  BOTH OF THESE THOUGHTS ARE FROM THE DEVIL.  As Paul said to the Ephesian Christians, "we wrestle not against flesh and blood."  This includes our own flesh and blood.  Yes, our physical state gives ground to our enemy, but that is just my point.

WE HAVE AN ENEMY!

The devil assaults the mind, first and foremost.  Eve believed SatanSatan deceived Eve.  The means to the end of Satan is independent human reason and imagination.

As I write, I see scantily clad women on a screen in front of me.  An assault on my mind and imagination and volition.

Think about it.

Satan is distraction

How often is your mind and mine attacked by loudness and obnoxiousness of words and dress?

Solomon instructs those who seek wisdom to guard their hearts above all else, their thoughts and intentions, which determine their lives.  The Hebrew idea of the words "guard" and "above all else," or "diligence" is of a prison guard.  I especially relate to this because I am a prison guard as I write.  This is my present vocation.  The heart with its thoughts and intentions are likened to a prison cell in which the guard has the keys.  The guard determines who and what will enter and exit the cell. He searches the cell for contraband--unauthorized or illegal material.  He identifies all who go and come.

So it is with our minds.  Our will is the key to the cell door of our minds, if you will.  We determine what enters and what exits, and we are to guard our minds with diligence,  ABOVE ALL ELSE!! Even if you are not a prison guard, you own or live in a home.  You possess keys to a house, apartment, or car, or you live with someone that does.  The home or car owner possesses keys to the doors, and determines who and what enters or exits.

Our thoughts and intentions are attacked by Satan, who attempts "home invasion."  He looks for the unlocked doors of our minds, for those who lose the key of their wills.  Or for those who knowingly or unknowingly, who intentionally or unintentionally leave their doors open, or their keys lying around!!

He does this through our environments and those who are in our environments.

He does this through our carnal mindedness, our focus on the temporal instead of the eternal, the physical instead of the spiritual, the visible/tangible/audible instead of the invisible/intangible/inaudible.

Satan does this through our acceptance of deceptions instead of God's revelation of Christ Jesus, the Truth.

He does this through our passivity of mind instead of our active focus on the Spirit of Truth.  We exist in a constant state of thoughtless mindlessness, letting commercials and elevator music roam our minds.

Is it hard for you to read more than the 400 word limit that we bloggers are urged to follow?
Is it hard for you to focus when people talk to you?
Are thoughts running through your mind without your consent, without your knowledge of their origin?
These are of Satan, the master of mind oppression.  God refuses to think through your mind, to think for you, to make you think OR DO ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER.  The "fruit" of the Spirit is self-control, according to the word of God.

Your mind IS YOUR MIND!!
Your will IS YOUR WILL!!
Your heart IS YOUR HEART!!
GIVEN BY GOD, FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!

Guard it!
Start now!

From this point on, from this sentence on, determine the objects of your imagination and reason.
If a thought enters your mind without your consent, resist it and destroy it.
If in conversation you experience mind oppression, resist it!  Resist the one who imposes his or her thoughts upon you, and refuse to impose thoughts on others.  Listen without interruption!  And actually hear what the speaker is saying AND MEANING!

Today, destroy the assaults of Satan on your mind, and liberate others by the truth, God's word is truth.

Your life depends on this!

Let it be so.

PURE VIRGINS

"I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him."  2 CORINTHIANS 11:2

where are the pure virgins today?
at church...
really.
they are THE church!
...really!!

purity seems an impossibility in a world of unholy fantasies.  but it is a necessity to be holy if YOU WANT TO SEE GOD!

ONE HUSBAND ONE DEVOTION
ONE CHRIST ONE SAVIOR
ONE LORD ONE MASTER

i've heard of the idea of believers who lost their virginity physically that claim a "second virginity."  some slander them as hypocritical deceivers AT BEST!  after all, either you are a virgin or you are not.

understood...on both sides.

on one hand, it is a deception to deny sin that indeed happened.
on the other hand, the sin is forgiven AS IF IT REALLY DIDN'T HAPPEN!
but it did...
so, where does that leave those who want the virginity that they lost?

forgiven.  cleansed.  starting over again.  a new creation....and therefore...a virgin?

not quite...but exactly!

yes, in the body, one who lost his or her virginity cannot claim virginity physically.

"what use is 'spiritual virginity' if one is not a virgin physically?" one may ask legitimately.

first, let's clarify the spiritual reality of being forgiven and thus being a new creation.

as i said, so i say again, when one is forgiven because of Christ's crucifixion, one is truly and really forgiven, with all sin forgotten, as it is written,

"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I remember your sins no more."

yes, God forgives and forgets!

He even erases, or "blots out," so that there is no record in hell or heaven of sin.  this includes those who are no longer physically virgins.

if the sin of fornication is forgiven, forgotten and forsaken,
then the one who is a new creation is indeed reborn a "virgin,"meaning one spiritually reborn and without any sin, including the sin of fornication.

for the fornicator who believes in the Lord Jesus, his old adulterous self is crucified with Christ, the body of adultery is destroyed, and he is no longer a slave of fornication, but is indeed a new creation.  if he never commits adultery again, and lives out his physical consecration, then for all practical purposes he is a virgin, meaning from the time of his new creation, he resisted all temptations of fornication, and maintained his purification until marriage.  he offered his new body and new spirit to his new wife alone.

"so he should tell her he has never had sex?"
no.
he need not do that any more than he would need to say that because his sins are forgiven and forgotten, he never committed sin.
no.
what he can tell her is exactly what i've said, that from the time of his salvation he lived in a state of spiritual and physical consecration, which made him a "second virgin" if you will.

put this another way.  he was born, then born again.  but he has the same body and life as he had before he was reborn, yet a completely new and different life as well.  he has a new heart and a new spirit, and his body is now in a new state--destroyed, rendered powerless or inoperative through faith in his union with the death of Christ.  so on one hand, nothing has changed, but on the other hand, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!!

"what if the man or woman who is no longer a virgin had their sins forgiven, but they committed the sin of fornication again?  now they are no longer virgins...again...no longer "second virgins...?"  this seems like crazy hypocrisy insanity to me!!! no wonder atheists make fun of christianity!"

"i mean really....!!!  is there a second, third, and fourth virginity?  how many virginities are there, REALLY!!!???"

this begs the question, "how many times are we 'born again?'"
we are born once.
we are reborn once.
Jesus was born once.  He died once, rose once, and returns once.
how many times are we forgiven?  seven times seven?  no.  seventy times seventy!!!
my children are my children, before and after they are forgiven, if they commit sin.
after being forgiven, the barrier to intimacy is removed, but their status as my children didn't change.
"but does the status of the 'second virgin' change if he or she sins again sexually after their 'rebirth?'"

the second virgin concept is only useful as it expresses newness...a new start, new identity, new focus, new purpose.  so the PURPOSE of virginity is purity and exclusivity, spiritually and physically.  the one who sins, confesses, asks forgiveness, and stops, is indeed forgiven with his sins forgotten.

think of it in marriage.  a woman commits adultery, and is truly and deeply sorry.  she confesses to her husband without making any excuses or blaming him, as if any fault of his excuses her broken promise.  she asks him to forgive her and forsakes the adulterer forever.  she genuinely decides to NEVER commit this sin again, and decides to be faithful to her husband.  now, when she committed adultery, she was an "adulteress" as long as she committed this sin.  but upon confession and being forgiven, what happens?  she returns to her status as wife.  in fact, it is safe to say that her status as wife never really ended, BUT WAS ADULTERATED!

the beauty of being forgiven, whether of fornication or any other sin, is that believers can start again, and their new start is always as God's children, never left or forsaken, confessed sins forgotten!  in this way, they are "pure virgins," promised to One Husband, destined for heaven!
