Here is the catch, the true test of listening to God: How, or IF we listen AT ALL TO PEOPLE!
Hear the words of scripture:
If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For
anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God,
whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20
In the scripture above, let's substitute the words "love and hate" with "listen to and does not listen to," and the word "seen" with the word "heard."
If
anyone says, "I listen to God," yet does not listen to his brother, he
is a liar. For anyone who does not listen to his brother, whom he has
heard with his physical ears, cannot listen to God, whom he has not
heard with his physical ears."
In
other words, I believe the reason we struggle to hear God's voice is
because we fail to hear the voices of men and women, God's creations,
God's imitations. If we can't hear the voices of those who are like
God, then we definitely won't be able to hear the voice of God Himself.
This is practical, immediately applicable.
Practice listening. Really listen to people. Make this your only goal.
If
you do this, you will fulfill the law of God, bear the fruit of the
Spirit, and discover the gift of the Spirit in your life.
Try it. What do you have to lose?
