The most direct encounter with God is the entrance of His Spirit into one who believes in His Son. From that moment on, the believer's body becomes the very home of the Spirit of God. God in you. Always. God with you. Always.
The next kind of divine encounter is indirect. If you don't believe in God's Son, your encounter of Him is in one who does believe. God in him. Always. God in her. Always. God through him and her to you and with you. Of course, it's better to have God in you. But until you do, connect with those who do.
After this, the Spirit inspired scriptures bring one to the very voice of God. Interestingly enough, this encounter is like the second encounter, indirect. (Because indeed, THE BIBLE IS NOT GOD.) You encounter the Spirit of God in Moses, the prophets, and the apostles. The encounter of God in scripture IS indirect. It is a means to the end, BUT NOT THE END.
One also experiences the eternal power and divine nature of the Creator in His creation. This experience is so clear that one is without excuse, according to the Apostle Paul. In creation and conscience, according to Paul, one knows without excuse the origin of creation and the Law Maker behind all moral law.
Yet the most direct encounter with God is the experience of Jesus. The Lord Jesus said, "For this cause I was born. For this cause I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. All who are of the truth hear my voice."
It is also written, "The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."
Therefore, according to these scriptures, if you want to directly encounter God, or even indirectly encounter Him, one thing is necessary: TOTAL HONESTY. If you come to him hiding nothing, knowing that nothing is hidden from Him, and you welcome transparency before him, you will encounter the God who is light, and in whom there is no darkness at all. Notice, to hear the voice of the Lord, according to Jesus Himself, one must be "of the truth." Indeed, the Spirit of God is called the "Spirit of truth. The Apostle John said the Spirit is truth. Again, Jesus prayed that God would set His followers apart by truth, defining God's word as truth.
So, to hear the voice of God, one must be committed to absolute honesty.
As Jesus said, "All who are of the truth hear my voice."
If a person pursues utter vulnerability and transparency, he or she will encounter God.
Therefore, to experience God directly (or indirectly) is up to you.
Let me know if you do, or if you want to.
